There are also three controls found at the top left of the window, namely Quit Process, Sample, and Inspect Process. Windowed Processes – any process that has a window open View each process by typeĪs an example, if you choose only Windowed Processes, you’ll see a list of every process or application that has a window open somewhere on your Mac (in the current space or elsewhere): Windowed processes are those which have an open window.Inactive Processes – idle processes which aren’t currently doing anything. There is also a Filter box at the top right, that lets you enter the process name you want to view, for example if you type “Sky” any process that matches will be displayed (such as Skype). Just click on the column header once or twice to sort by that column and change the order. You can sort the information displayed by any of the columns in ascending or descending order. It’s possible to view additional columns by selecting them from the View menu, by expanding the Columns option and choosing the ones you want to view: Columns can be customised to show the desired information The main window is where every process and application running on your Mac is listed, together with a whole bunch of related details in each column – for example: The main window of Activity Monitor shows the list of processes and applications It can be found in the Applications -> Utilities folder, or just type its name into Spotlight (the Spotlight shortcut is COMMAND + SPACEBAR). I have iStat Menus installed, and that appropriately displays the processes and their CPU utilization, RAM allocations, etc.Ģ019 16" MacBook Pro, macOS 10.15.6 with SU applied. The first thing to do is open Activity Monitor. I have tried force-quitting Activity Monitor and rebooting the Mac, also with no effect. Selecting and/or deselecting columns to show has no effect. This is the case for all tabs, showing just the CPU tab below: Secondary-clicking in the header bar shows the column selection dropdown, and the appropriate items are checked, but not showing. The header bar with the column labels is likewise blank. In my case, there is nothing displayed other than the Process IDs. Normally, columns are shown that indicate CPU utilization, process uptime, number of spawned threads, etc., such as in this image borrowed from Apple's Activity Monitor User Guide: Activity Monitor displaying only processes, no other info This afternoon I opened Activity Monitor (in the course of answering another user's question), and found that the window is devoid of information other than the Process Names.
